Jayson Tatum posted several lengthy workout videos to Instagram this week, but that does not signal an imminent return, according to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe.
It has been seven months since Tatum ruptured his Achilles tendon, and while the All-Star forward has continued to tell team officials he wants to play this season, a league source cautioned that multiple recovery milestones still must be met before that becomes realistic.
The Celtics remain cautious, even as Tatum’s public optimism continues.
Walsh Drawing Attention: Jordan Walsh’s growth has not gone unnoticed. Doc Rivers became the latest opposing coach to praise the third-year forward after Boston’s win in Milwaukee, per Himmelsbach.
Walsh has established himself as a high-level defender and has been remarkably efficient offensively of late. He is shooting 30-of-37 from the field and 9-of-12 from three-point range in December.
“It seems like they just put him on anybody to pressure,” Rivers said. “His energy is infectious.”
Center Market Looms: The possibility of a Tatum return could influence Boston’s approach at the trade deadline, particularly in the search for another center, Brian Robb of MassLive writes in a mailbag column.
Robb notes that while a name like Ivica Zubac often comes up, the Celtics may be reluctant to part with multiple first-round picks for a big man.
If a high-end option is not available, Boston is more likely to explore minimum-salary additions rather than wait until the offseason.
For now, Neemias Queta has given the Celtics stability where there was once uncertainty. What comes next may depend on how patient Boston decides to be.
