Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reported on Sunday that the Boston Celtics are "most definitely listening on calls" for veteran point guard Jrue Holiday.
The Celtics, who lost to the New York Knicks in the second round of this year's playoffs in six games, must make trades this offseason to avoid having the most expensive roster in the NBA next season.
Boston acquired Holiday from the Portland Trail Blazers in 2023. The UCLA product helped the franchise win the 2024 championship against the Dallas Mavericks.
Holiday, who will make $32.4 million next season, averaged 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists for the Celtics this season. The two-time NBA champion then averaged 10.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists in the 2025 playoffs.
It's unknown if Boston will trade Holiday this offseason, but according to Matt Moore of Hardwood Paroxysm, the Celtics want a first-round pick in a Holiday deal.
“While the focus has been on reducing payroll, sources have told the Paroxysm that Boston is setting the price at a first-round pick along with whatever reduced salary comes back in the deal,” Moore wrote.
Holiday has played for the Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Pelicans, Milwaukee Bucks and Celtics. He has career averages of 15.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists.
Boston may play all of next season without star forward Jayson Tatum, who tore his right Achilles tendon in Game 4 against the Knicks.
Without Tatum, the Celtics may not be a title contender next season, so Boston's new ownership group may not want to have an expensive roster in 2025-26.
