It was a disappointing season for the Sacramento Kings and they now enter a crucial offseason that could be full of changes.
Of course, the Kings’ season was one full of changes as they moved on from head coach Mike Brown in late December and then traded away their star point guard De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs at the trade deadline.
Sacramento then went on to finish ninth in the Western Conference before being eliminated in the Play-In Tournament by the Dallas Mavericks.
Now the Kings face a crucial offseason that has some of their stars such as Domantas Sabonis and DeMar DeRozan in trade rumors but they could also look to retool their roster instead of rebuilding.
With this in mind, Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz recently created a list of three dream offseason trade targets for the Kings which featured two current players and one former player of the Boston Celtics.
Derrick White headlined Swartz’s list along with Jrue Holiday and Marcus Smart, all of whom could be a massive upgrade for the Kings in the backcourt.
For White, he would give the Kings a much-needed defensive-minded guard in the backcourt who is also a great scorer that could work well alongside Zach LaVine if he returns to a point guard role.
Holiday would also be a major upgrade, especially with Sacramento searching for a new point guard after trading Fox. The veteran guard is a great scorer and elite defender that the Kings lacked this season.
Smart would be the cheapest of the three for the Kings to acquire and he would also give them an upgrade at point guard, especially on the defensive end.
Despite this, the Kings could instead look to begin a rebuild after missing the playoffs once again but if they choose to retool their roster around most of their current core, expect them to aggressively pursue a starting point guard this summer.
