This is the NBA, and we all know that means. It means that absolutely anything is possible. Just ask Channing Frye.
The former NBA big man offered a bold prediction for the 2025-26 season, saying he could see the Golden State Warriors blowing it up midway through the year.
“I hate doing this. I’m not being a troll,” Frye said on the Road Trippin’ podcast with host Allie Clifton. “The Warriors (will) blow it up halfway through the season.”
Frye added that he expects Golden State to be competitive early but questioned the sustainability of their small-ball approach in a league trending toward size and length.
“Look at the trend of where the NBA is going,” he said. “OKC is very tall. Cleveland is a tall team. Boston is big. Denver is big. Minnesota is tall. Houston is extremely tall. Golden State is still playing small ball, and I don’t know if that works anymore.”
Frye raised concerns about the Warriors’ lack of rim protection and frontcourt size, citing a need for a true center. He floated the idea of Golden State making a move for Nikola Vucevic or another interior presence.
“Who’s their shot blocker? Who’s their rim threat? Who’s their lob threat?” he asked. “They used to have those things.”
So far, Golden State has been the only team not to add or re-sign a player in free agency. They have been linked to veteran big man Al Horford and a possible reunion with guard De’Anthony Melton, though neither deal has materialized.
While the Warriors are expected to run it back with Stephen Curry, 37, Jimmy Butler, 35, and Draymond Green, 35, Frye believes that plan could shift dramatically if things start to go south.
After all, crazier things have happened.
