The Charlotte Hornets have announced their second injury update of the summer, following a forgettable 2024-25 campaign, with a 19-63 record.
In an official statement released yesterday, the Charlotte Hornets shared that Josh Green underwent surgery to “address instability in his left shoulder.” The 24-year-old swingman faces a long spell on the sidelines but is expected to make a full recovery.
Green is the second Charlotte Hornets starter to undergo surgery over the past few months, as LaMelo Ball had two surgeries to fix his right ankle and right wrist.
In his first full season with Charlotte, Green established himself as a regular starter, averaging 7.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.1 steals on 42.8 percent shooting from the field across 68 regular season appearances.
With Green on the mend, the Charlotte Hornets are urged to consider signing De’Anthony Melton, who will hit unrestricted free agency this summer after earning $12.8 million this season with the Brooklyn Nets.
“The Hornets could definitely use Melton. At 27 years old, he would be one of the more experienced players on the roster. He pairs defensive prowess in the backcourt, which is very much needed, with a reliable jumpshot from deep, which is necessary for Charles Lee’s three-point-reliant offense,” Albert Bottcher of SI wrote.
“But there’s an obvious problem: Almost every team in the NBA can use a player like Melton. And Melton’s career path suggests that playing winning basketball is a major factor in his decision-making process. That doesn’t exactly favor the Hornets and makes a return to San Francisco seem more likely,” he added.
