Chicago Bulls reporter Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times believes Coby White will test the waters in next year’s free agency and bet on himself.
“White is eligible to sign a four-year, $89 million extension in July but would be much better served to bet on himself and get a much bigger payday as an unrestricted free agent after next season,” Cowley wrote in his column. “That payday could make him a $40 million-per-year player.”
White is entering the final year of his three-year, $36 million contract with the Chicago Bulls. After earning $12 million this year, the former seventh overall pick will earn roughly $12.9 million next season before hitting unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2026.
The 25-year-old had his best NBA campaign in 2024-25, averaging 20.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists on 45.3 percent shooting from the field across 74 regular season appearances. White was named Eastern Conference Player of the Month for March 2025.
The Chicago Bulls have Josh Giddey , Lonzo Ball, Jevon Carter, Ayo Dosunmu, Kevin Huerter, Tre Jones, Dalen Terry, and Coby White as part of their backcourt. At some point, the team has to offload some of them this summer.
The same can’t be said for their frontcourt since they only have Nikola Vucevic, Matas Buzelis, Zach Collins, Jalen Smith, Julian Phillips, and Patrick Williams.
The Chicago Bulls have the 12th overall pick in this summer’s NBA Draft, and Jonathan Wasserman from Bleacher Report has them picking Collin Murray-Bowles, a power forward from South Carolina.
