Chicago Bulls Get Bad Injury News on Defensive Star After Play-In Shocker vs. Atlanta Hawks
David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Alex Caruso has been a boon for the Chicago Bulls ever since he joined the team in 2021 after winning a ring with the Los Angeles Lakers. But after their recent victory over the Atlanta Hawks, the defensive-minded star won’t suit up soon against the Miami Heat in a crucial game to secure a spot in the playoffs.

Just recently, the Bulls scored a pivotal 131-116 win over Atlanta in the Play-In Tournament. Coby White went off and had a Michael Jordan-like performance by dropping 42 points, nine rebounds, six assists, two steals and zero turnovers in 43 minutes on the court. Nikola Vucevic made 24 points and 12 rebounds, while DeMar DeRozan contributed 22 points, six assists, and nine assists.

The Hawks were led by Dejounte Murray’s 30 points while Trae Young posted 22 points and 10 assists. Clint Capela connected 11 of his 15 field goals to score 22 points and Bogdan Bogdanovic tallied 21 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

The win helped Chitown come closer to a playoff spot, granted they defeat a Miami Heat squad without Jimmy Butler. The Hawks, on the other hand, have been eliminated from the playoff race, effectively ending their run this season.

Alex Caruso to Miss Chicago Bulls’ Crucial Play-In Tournament Game Against Miami Heat

During the second quarter of the Bulls-Hawks game, Alex Caruso got tangled up with Andre Drummond, causing the latter to land on the former’s foot. This led to an ankle sprain, which can endanger their chances of advancing, as tweeted by Adrian Wojnarowski on X:

“Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso has a “significant” left ankle sprain and his availability vs. Miami on Friday with the 8th-seed on the line is in doubt, source tells ESPN. Andre Drummond stepped on foot vs. Hawks in Play-In victory tonight,” Woj posted.

The former NBA champion has played 71 games for the Bulls this season, with 57 games as a starter. During that period, the former Los Angeles Lakers star averaged 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.

It remains to be seen whether the defensive specialist will be available against the Heat soon. What’s certain, though, is his presence will be needed if the Bulls want to make it far in the playoffs. Without the former Lakers star, they don’t stand a chance of winning against the Boston Celtics, their possible opponent in the first round if the manage to get past Miami.
