The Chicago Bulls may have paid Josh Giddey $100 million to stay with the team, but another young star will be the biggest benefactor of that decision.
The Chicago Bulls, after months of speculation, seem to be getting their squad ready for the 2025-26 NBA season.
Prior to last week, their most noteworthy move was trading Lonzo Ball to bring Isaac Okoro to Chicago, which was nothing more than a depth move.
On top of that, they signed Yuki Kawamura to a two-way contract, giving head coach Billy Donovan an NBA-ready guard to bring in when needed.
But after signing Josh Giddey to a $100 million contract, the Bulls look set to have a motivated young star. And Giddey’s motivation could help one of their brightest prospects break out next season.
The Chicago Bulls picked Matas Buzelis in the 2024 NBA Draft. While there were some initial questions about his fit, the young star quickly proved his value to the team.
Bulls fans immediately recognized Buzelis as a future star, as he delivered some strong performances as a rookie.
Last season, he averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists while mostly coming off the bench. For his performances, he earned an All-Rookie second team selection.
Now, with Buzelis likely to get more opportunities as a starter, expect him to improve on his numbers massively, with Josh Giddey providing the right type of distribution for him to succeed.
The sky is the limit for the young star, with one Bulls expert even comparing Buzelis to Giannis Antetokounmpo.
One of the things that many fans were surprised by last season was Matas Buzelis’ durability. The young rookie played 80 games for the Chicago Bulls.
While one might imagine that a young star like him will have the motor to play several games, Buzelis’ playing style is actually quite risky.
For a player who relies on their athleticism as heavily as Buzelis did, it’s hard to believe he didn’t sustain a single injury.
If he wants to continue thriving for the Bulls next season, he has to hope for similar luck on the health front.
