The Chicago Bulls made their first big move this offseason when they traded Alex Caruso to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Josh Giddey, and that may not be the last.
According to Matt Moore of the Action Network, Nikola Vucevic may be the next domino to fall.
“I’m skeptical of this given the entire history of the franchise and their desire to constantly stay on a treadmill of mediocrity, but there have been whispers in recent days that the Bulls are really planning on moving younger, with the perplexing trade of Alex Caruso for Josh Giddey with no picks attached as part of that design,” Moore wrote in his column.
“The Bulls are known to be looking to move Nikola Vucevic, along with the never-ending Zach LaVine saga. The Caruso trade both helps and hurts those efforts because Caruso’s contract was a quality lubricant for teams willing to take on those contracts, which now isn’t available,” he added.
Nikola Vucevic just completed his third full season with the Chicago Bulls since arriving from the Orlando Magic (via trade) in 2020-21. This year, the two-time NBA All-Star averaged 18.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game on 48.4 percent shooting from the field.
When the Chicago Bulls formed the core of Lonzo Ball, Nikola Vucevic, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan in 2021, the team looked on its way to contend in the Eastern Conference after a fast start. However, that didn’t happen as injuries haunted them.
Because they’re coming off another mediocre season, compiling a 39-43 record to eventually lose in the play-in tournament, a rebuild may be on the horizon for the Chicago Bulls.
During the 2024 NBA Draft, the Chicago Bulls used the No. 11 pick to select Matas Buzelis from G League Ignite, and he, Giddey, and Coby White are likely the team’s building blocks moving forward.
