The Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to get over the hump this season after back-to-back Western Conference Finals appearances.
Anthony Edwards has been working on a move this summer that should take his game to a whole new level.
Meanwhile, Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle will have another season together as they continue to build their chemistry on and off the court.
Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch has a solid roster filled with pieces that complement each other, but he needs to see internal growth in order for Minnesota to take the next step.
Jaden McDaniels is another young star Finch has at his disposal for this upcoming season.
Known for his defensive excellence, McDaniels has also shown he can blossom on the offensive end as well.
Finch said at Timberwolves media day that he wants McDaniels to look for more opportunities on offense and lean into being a playmaker.
“He was left off those lists last season. We know that’s the type of player and impact that he has for our team.
“Offensively, looking for opportunities to direct the ball more. We know that he can have a good partnership with Rudy.
“He’s got a game where he can get to a shot and get it kind of off over people because of the size and his high release point.
“And we need him to kind of lean into being a playmaker when he does have the ball in his hands to make sure that he’s getting the ball out and finding open people.”
McDaniels averaged a career-high 12.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists last season. He boosted his average to 14.7 points per game in the playoffs.
Finch’s remarks make it clear that McDaniels will be more of a priority in the Timberwolves offense this season.
The 25-year-old has shown flashes of how impactful he can be on offense. The Timberwolves had a perfect 6-0 record in the regular season and playoffs combined when he scored 25 or more points.
The Timberwolves’ decision to make McDaniels more of a focal point on offense and a true No. 3 option behind Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle could be the key to helping them get to the NBA Finals.
