Coach Spoelstra coaching through the media

Coach Spoelstra is coaching Kel’el Ware through the media. It has been a tactic that many coaches have used over the years. Coach Spoelstra hasn’t been as obvious with other players as he has been with Ware. In last night’s game versus Boston, Ware hit six three pointers. The analysts were calling him Wemby 2.0. Spoelstra’s post game comments caused fan blowback.

Wemby vs. Ware comparison

Victor Wembamyama was shooting a lot of three-pointers last season. This season, Wembanyama is not and is around the rim more. Teams will, as this Reddit post from the NBA last season shows, live with a seven foot player taking three-pointers instead of in position to get rebounds. Wembanyama is a decent three-point shooter but it is not doesn’t help the team.

Spoelstra post game comments

Spoelstra highlighted first that the Heat defense started to falter towards the end of the third quarter. Boston hit four three-point shots in a row. Then the team started to make mental mistakes (three turnovers.) That is the biggest takeaway. It is possible to believe that Coach Spoelstra is calling out Ware because he believes that Ware deserves to take the criticism.

Bam can’t stay consistent scoring because of his need to quarterback the defense. But as a true leader, Adebayo admits his struggles on offense. Bam is the “pace setter” for players as he contributes on offense and defense. Ware is on a steep learning curve and can’t be “a novelty” to the ESPN announcers and the fans. Adebayo defends the pick and roll at an expert level so Ware needs to get up to advanced in a hurry. Ware appears to want the challenge and has the mental fortitude to take the comments.

Heat vs. Celtics key points

The Heat were down by 1 entering the fourth quarter. It was the defense that allowed the Celtics to shoot 61 percent in the fourth quarter. The Heat won the rebounding battle and beat the Celtics in second chance points. They had 13 turnovers in the game contrasted with Boston’s 14.

Andrew Wiggins and Davion Mitchell were injured and didn’t play in the game. Kasparas Jakulonis played and scored 17 points, grabbed six rebounds and had four assists. As per Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel, he didn’t look lost on defending the Celtics players.
