The five-team NBA trade that sent Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat to the Golden State Warriors is now official, according to press releases from the organizations involved. The deal also includes the Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons, and Toronto Raptors, with the following terms:
In a separate move, the Jazz waived Jalen Hood-Schifino to finalize the roster changes associated with the deal, while also expected to cut Josh Richardson.
This trade concludes an NBA saga that began on December 10, when reports first emerged that the Heat were open to listening to offers for Butler.
By Christmas Day, Butler reportedly expressed a desire to be traded, and just over a week later, he formally requested a move.
Tensions escalated from there, as the Heat suspended Butler multiple times for conduct detrimental to the team and withheld his services. At the time of the trade’s completion, Butler was serving an indefinite team-imposed suspension.
Butler will now join the Warriors, where he will team up with Golden State stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Reports indicate that Butler has agreed to a two-year, maximum-salary extension with the Warriors.
The trade also includes side deals involving the Heat, Raptors, Pistons, and Jazz, further expanding the complexity of the agreement.
According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Butler’s debut with the Warriors is scheduled for Saturday, when Golden State will face the Chicago Bulls.
