‘Concerning’ update emerges on Kristaps Porzingis’ situation

Kristaps Porzingis doesn’t seem anywhere near game-ready for the start of the 2026-27 NBA season.

In late September, reports said the Golden State Warriors big man was dealing with a health issue and would be out indefinitely.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr didn’t allay fears about Porzingis’s health on Tuesday.

“I haven’t seen him yet, but we didn’t have practice yesterday,” Kerr told reporters during his media availability session before a preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers at Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif., via Joseph Dycus of the Mercury News.

Kerr also said that Porzingis’ situation is “definitely concerning.”

That was not an encouraging update on the Latvian center, who’s constantly dealt with injuries and health issues throughout his NBA career.

Porzingis hasn’t played a complete season in the league. He has appeared in more than 57 games in a season just three times. Over the last two seasons, he played in only 74 games for the Boston Celtics, Atlanta Hawks and Warriors, who just signed him to a 2-year, $40 million contract extension in June.

When healthy, the 31-year-old Porzingis can be a game-changer for the Warriors on both ends of the floor, given his size and range, but those strengths are of zero use while he is unavailable.

The Warriors will open their season on Oct. 21 against the Lakers at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Calif.
