Cooper Flagg turned in his best game as a pro on Monday night as the Dallas Mavericks went up against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. The No. 1 overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft went off for a career-high 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting, to go along with nine rebounds, four assists, two steals, a block and one triple in 35 minutes of action.
Unfortunately for the Mavs, not even Flagg’s big-time performance was able to carry them to victory. Antetokounmpo dropped 30 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three blocks to lead the Bucks to a hard-fought 116-114 victory.
The Mavs fell to 3-8 after Monday’s tough loss. It marked their fifth defeat in their last six games as Dallas continues to struggle to start the new NBA season.
Flagg spoke to reporters after the game, and the 6-foot-9 forward-guard shared some concerning news. Flagg revealed that he played through a thumb injury in his shooting hand on Monday against Milwaukee.
"It’s doing okay," he said. "It happened one of the plays the last game when I was attacking the rim trying to dunk. … A Little sprain, thumb sprain. Nothing too crazy. I was able to play through it tonight. … It was obviously a little painful, but like I said, nothing crazy."

Flagg clearly wasn’t concerned about the injury, which he sustained in Dallas’ 111-105 win over the Washington Wizards on Saturday. Nevertheless, the former Duke Blue Devils star’s status for Wednesday’s home matchup against the Phoenix Suns will still be worth monitoring. Flagg has played in all 11 games for the Mavs thus far.
It is also worth noting that Anthony Davis sat out his sixth straight contest on Monday due to a left calf strain. Davis’ status for the upcoming Suns game remains uncertain.
