According to a new study by Vegas Insider, the Dallas Mavericks fans are #1 for the most online negativity in the NBA. Vegas Insider not only found that Mavericks fans are one of the top five most vulgar fanbases in the NBA but also the NBA’s most negative. Read on for the full study.
Vegas Insider found that the Dallas Mavericks fans topped the NBA for the most online negativity, with 32.41% of comments classified as negative on the Mavericks’ subreddit. Vegas Insider’s analysis ranked all 30 NBA teams’ subreddits by the percentage of vulgar language, positive and negative sentiment, and top-used swear words.
Vegas Insider added that 7.25% of the Mavericks fan comments included vulgar language, just below the Indiana Pacers fans, who were at 7.36%, and less than one percentage point behind the New York Knicks, who led the NBA at 8.37%. Vegas Insider’s analysis contained a review of over 1.3 million comments on Reddit.
The Dallas Mavericks are a top-five team for the most online negativity in the NBA. The Mavericks were followed by the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves fans, whose negative comments were at 31.73% and 31.52%, respectively. The Memphis Grizzlies and Philadelphia 76ers fans rounded out the top five at 30.94% and 30.60% in that order.
The Mavericks fans’ most-used swear word was f**k, which made up 45.30% of all vulgar language used. In contrast, the San Antonio Spurs and Washington Wizards fans were the least negative at 21.99% and 21.82%, respectively.
The Dallas Mavericks cooled off since the incredible run to the 2024 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics. The Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2025. The Mavericks won the first overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft.
Despite the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery result, some Mavericks fans are still sad and angry about the Doncic trade. However, trades are a business in the NBA. The Mavericks could trade PJ Washington or Daniel Gafford to an NBA team with cap space for a decent contract, along with draft capital this offseason.
