Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic Goes Full Michael Jordan in Domination of Chicago Bulls
Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

Much like what Michael Jordan did in his prime, Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic is doing the same by putting up straight triple-doubles during the past few days. This time, though, his domination of the Chicago Bulls in his best impersonation of MJ has set a new NBA record.

In that game, the Mavs defeated Chicago with a score of 127-92. Doncic led the way for Dallas by dropping 27 points, 12 rebounds, and 14 assists in 33 minutes on the court. Rookie Derek Lively II made 22 points and seven rebounds, while Daniel Gafford added 20 points and seven rebounds of his own.

On the other side of the fence, the Bulls saw Onulralp Bitim lead the team with 17 points. Meanwhile, both DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic each had 13 points to lead Chicago’s starters.

At some point in the fourth quarter, head coach Jason Kidd decided to take Doncic out after Dallas established a lead sufficient to win the game.

“It’s about winning to him. Numbers, I don’t know if they really mean anything to him today. But when he does retire, he’ll look back to see the game that he was playing was at a different level than anybody else,” Kidd said.

Dallas Mavericks Star Luka Doncic Goes For Triple-Double Record in Domination of Chicago Bulls

Even though he was taken out of the game, Doncic still managed to put up a triple-double against the Bulls. His recent feat is now considered an NBA record, according to a tweet posted by Tim McMahon on X:

“Luka Doncic did tie the NBA record for consecutive 20-point triple-doubles with seven, per @ESPNStatsInfo . The others who have done it: Oscar Robertson and Michael Jordan,” McMahon shared.

While he made that record, Doncic’s streak of 30 and 35-point triple-doubles has ended at six and and give games, respectively. Nevertheless, the Slovenian guard still managed to accomplish this feat in the modern NBA era warrants a lot of praise.

It remains to be seen whether Doncic can keep his 20-point triple-double streak alive in the coming days. What’s certain, though, is Jordan would be proud of the dominance he’s showing at this point of his career.
