The shocking trade marks the end of Davis’ tenure in Dallas, which was mired by the infamous swap with Luka Doncic that sent him there in the first place.
Wednesday’s move signals that the Wizards are buying into their roster and will look to make a playoff push in the near future. With a core of Davis, Trae Young and Alex Sarr, Washington appears to finally be moving out of the rebuild phase.
For the Mavericks, the move is symbolic of a desire to invest in the future and completely build around rookie phenom Cooper Flagg.
