Dallas Mavericks Urged To Target Philadelphia 76ers’ Jared McCain

The Dallas Mavericks have been urged to target Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain with the NBA trade deadline approaching.

NBA analyst Dan Favale of Bleacher Report thinks the Mavericks should attempt to acquire McCain since the Sixers have Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe and Quentin Grimes.

“Jared McCain doesn’t shoulder a ton of table-setting responsibilities with the Philadelphia 76ers,” Favale wrote. “That’s precisely why he could be gettable. Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe are ahead of him in the big-picture pecking order, and there’s a chance Quentin Grimes could be as well.”

McCain is making $4.2 million this season. The Duke product has appeared in 23 games for the Sixers. He’s averaging 7.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 35.5% from the field, 31.7% from beyond the arc and 84.2% from the free-throw line.

The Sixers selected McCain with the 16th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. The 21-year-old has dealt with multiple injuries since becoming a pro, which is why he’s only played in 46 games. McCain holds career averages of 11.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.

The Mavericks are exploring the trade markets for Anthony DavisDaniel GaffordKlay Thompson and D’Angelo Russell, NBA sources told Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal. All four players have been in trade rumors ever since Nico Harrison was fired as general manager.

While Dallas is listening to trade offers for Davis, the front office will not trade the Kentucky product unless they get a “strong” return, sources told Afseth.

Davis has been linked to the Toronto Raptors, Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers and Milwaukee Bucks in NBA trade rumors.

NBA sources told Afseth that Davis will seek a contract extension from the Mavericks in the offseason if he doesn’t get traded this season. If Dallas does trade Davis, the Chicago native and his agent — Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group — will pursue an extension with the team he gets traded to.
