After their grueling back-to-back meetings against the Indiana Pacers, the Milwaukee Bucks are set to land in Texas and face the San Antonio Spurs.
This forthcoming meeting means that they will finally face the future face of the NBA in Victor Wembanyama, whom Damian Lillard is pretty much excited to approach and share the court.
“He's an extremely unique talent. I think all of the media coverage and everything – the hype around him – I think it's worthy of it. Just from when I'm watching him, how versatile he is, all the things he can do, he's a special talent,” he said of Wemby.
The anticipation towards the Bucks’ assumed first face-off with Wembanyama this season got halted when the Spurs shelved the French wunderkind on Dec. 19 due to right ankle soreness.
The entire Milwaukee fandom was left hanging within the Fiserv Forum as it was supposed to be the first collision as well for both Vic and Giannis Antetokounmpo — two big-time European superstars of the game.
As such, all signs are pointing to Wembanyama being active on Thursday against Giannis and the Bucks, which all NBA fans are certainly tuning in.
For Lillard, he can't wait to test the generational might and promise that Wemby possesses. The 20-year-old has been an absolute head-turner this season with an average of 18.9 points, 10.2 boards, and a jaw-dropping 3.1 blocks per game in 29 games.
While they handily picked up the 132-119 victory last time against San Antonio, Dame is expecting a much more competitive and thrilling game with Wemby about to be available for the Spurs.
“Anytime you can be on the floor with a guy like that – an up-and-coming [player] – and get to see him up close? It's always fun,” Dame concluded.
