Davis Bertans Agrees to Contract Revision With Thunder
USA TODAY Sports

Davis Bertans has agreed to revise his contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder, as Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported Thursday afternoon.

Oklahoma City acquired the forward in the draft day swap with the Dallas Mavericks, where the Thunder moved up to No. 10 to select Cason Wallace and take on the contract of Bertans.

The exact revision takes out the hypothetical pay dump in Bertans' salary and pockets him a bit of guaranteed money in the process. In his original contract that he negotiated with the Washington Wizards, it was written that if Bertans had appeared in 75% of Oklahoma City’s games this season, his partially guaranteed deal for the 2024-25 season would have become fully guaranteed at $16 million. That clause has now been removed.

As an adaption to the original contract, Bertans will receive a slight increase of $250,000 to his $5 million owed next season.

In the 17 Thunder games played this season, the sharp-shooter has only appeared in five so far, making the 75% number on his original contract seem doubtful. Now that he has removed that clause all together, he will receive $250,000 in guaranteed money.

This boosts Bertans' stock both on the Thunder or if he were to be traded to another team. He can now play freely without his team worrying about his $5 million 2024-25 salary hiking up to $16 million. While he's not currently in Oklahoma City's rotation, the team can pay him without having to think about the 75% threshold next season was supposed to hold.

He's averaging just 3.4 points in nine minutes per game and shooting 25% from 3-point range, which would all be career-lows. Bertans is a volume shooter, though, and with a larger sample size, those stats would probably shoot up quite a bit.

The contract revision won’t have an impact on Bertans or the Thunder this season, as his salary is fully guaranteed at $17 million.
