Dennis Schroder Approaching Wild NBA Record After Trade to Cavaliers

How many times has Dennis Schroder been traded to a team mid-season? It happened to him again as the Sacramento Kings decided to send him alongside Keon Ellis to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for DeAndre Hunter.

Schroder now joins a team in dire need of a contingency point guard with Darius Garland still dealing with injuries.

There's not much on record about how many times a player gets traded while the season is ongoing, but the latest count for the German guard is five. The last one before this was when he was traded by the Golden State Warriors to the Detroit Pistons, whom he helped reach the first round of the 2025 NBA playoffs.

The 32-year-old guard is now on his 11th team. He was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in 2013 and spent five seasons with them — the longest stint he had with an NBA team. He was then traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder and played alongside Russell Westbrook.

Schroder has jumped from one team to another since leaving the Thunder in 2020. He has since played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors, Brooklyn Nets, Warriors, Pistons, Kings and now the Cavaliers.

Schroder is now close to making a record for the most teams in an NBA career. This unique record is currently held by Ish Smith who played for 13 teams in his 14 seasons in the NBA.

Next on the list is Chucky Brown, who had represented 12 different NBA franchises in 12 seasons. Jim Jackson, Tony Massenburg and Joe Smith all have the same record.

Among active players, Schroder is behind Toronto Raptors guard Garrett Temple, who has already played for 12 teams.
