The Cleveland Browns were one of the biggest winners of the 2026 NFL Draft, especially in the first two rounds.
However, while most people focused on Spencer Fano, KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston, general manager Andrew Berry made another sneaky move. Taking Arkansas' Taylen Green in Day 3 was a major gamble. They don't want him to convert to wide receiver, and he looked solid in rookie minicamp. That's why, even though those were slowed-down reps with no pads, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated believes he could join the Browns' QB mix.
"I know everyone’s focused on the other quarterbacks in Cleveland, but I’m intrigued to see what sixth-rounder Taylen Green looks like in Todd Monken’s offense, given the wide array of quarterbacks Monken’s been around," Breer wrote. "If there’s something there, I bet Monken will find it in the uber-athletic Green."
The Browns already had a developmental quarterback in Shedeur Sanders. The fact that they hadn't committed to him and would give Deshaun Watson a chance to win the job was telling about their true feelings for him.
Now, with Green in the mix, they've all but confirmed that they're not entirely sold on the 2025 fifth-rounder. Green is an uber-athletic quarterback with the physical tools to be a dual-threat superstar, but he's extremely raw and was a turnover machine in college.
Given Monken's experience with the likes of Jameis Winston and Lamar Jackson, he may be able to bring out the best in him if given enough time. Then again, Green will be a 24-year-old rookie, so the Browns may not want to be patient with him. Whatever the case, it looks like he'll at least get a chance to make his case in OTAs and training camp, and that spells trouble for Sanders.
