The Denver Nuggets have removed the interim tag from David Adelman making him the team’s next head coach. Adelman took over the Nuggets with three games left in the regular season. Adelman replaced Head Coach Mike Malone less than two years after he guided Denver to a championship.
Adelman went 3-0 to close out the regular season. He then guided the Denver Nuggets to the second round of the Western Conference Playoffs. They were ultimately drubbed by the Oklahoma City in Game 7. Regardless of a disappointing postseason finish, Nuggets brass believes Adelman is the man to lead them into this new era. How will he fare with the team?
Nuggets Center Nikola Jokic was not in the best of moods following the team’s Game 7 performance. His premise was the Nuggets do not have the proper roster to compete for a championship. Jokic has a point as he was the team’s most consistent performer in their series against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The former MVP needed help from players like Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. to overcome the more talented Thunder. Ultimately, they were unable to prevail.
The only way for Adelman to have a championship-caliber team at his disposal is if the Denver Nuggets undergo a massive makeover this offseason. According to multiple reports, the team is reluctant to part ways with player like Aaron Gordon, Murray, and Porter Jr. Only time will tell how they remake their roster in the coming months.
Even though the Denver Nuggets are not as formidable as they once were, Adelman will have the best player in the league to help him acclimate to his new position. Adelman did well as the interim coach, and he must reward the team for the faith they have shown in him.
