The Denver Nuggets have added another seasoned voice to their coaching bench. Former NBA veteran and Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Jared Dudley has been hired to join head coach David Adelman’s staff for the upcoming season.
Dudley, a 14-year league veteran and 2020 NBA champion, brings strong player experience. His arrival comes as the Nuggets retool following their early playoff exit in 2025. With Adelman at the helm, Denver is building a staff filled with former players and respected minds.
Jared Dudley began his coaching career in 2021 after retiring from playing with the Lakers. Although he never suited up for Dallas, he quickly made an impact on Jason Kidd’s staff. Now, he steps into a bigger opportunity under Adelman in Denver.
Known for his basketball IQ and locker-room presence, Dudley becomes Adelman’s lead assistant. He joins fellow former NBA guard J.J. Barea, another recent hire aiming to help push Denver forward. Both additions reflect Adelman’s player-focused coaching vision.
Adelman officially took over after Mike Malone’s surprise dismissal this offseason. The Nuggets decided to stay in-house and promote Adelman, who had served as an assistant since 2017. Despite limited head coaching experience, the team trusts his leadership and continuity.
Dudley and Barea are the only significant changes to an otherwise familiar coaching group. Most of Malone’s staff has been retained, maintaining the culture that led to a 2023 championship. The new hires add fresh voices without disrupting the core foundation.
For Jared Dudley, this move marks another step forward in his coaching career. He’s joining a proven contender and gets the chance to help shape a roster capable of winning now. His experience as a role player and leader makes him a valuable voice in the locker room.
As for Adelman, surrounding himself with respected former players like Dudley helps establish his authority. The Nuggets are betting that this blend of experience, youth, and chemistry leads to a stronger postseason push in 2026.
