The Los Angeles Lakers continue to beef up their frontcourt, this time by adding a three-time NBA champion.
The Lakers are signing Kevon Looney to a one-year, $3.9 million deal, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. Looney will slot in as the team’s backup center.
In many ways, Looney is an outstanding fit for the Lakers. Not only does he have ample experience and lots of victories to his name, but he was a key pick and roll weapon for the Golden State Warriors.
Considering one of Luka Doncic’s top requests of the team was to get him centers he could work off of, this signing should make him very happy.

Looney spent last season with the New Orleans Pelicans, but he wound up playing in just 21 games.
Looney will not go down as the most important center the Lakers will add this offseason. However, he was crucial to the Warriors’ success for many years despite not being a core player. It is not absurd to think he could be the same with the Lakers.
