Denver Nuggets: Mike Malone Praises Team Despite Crushing Game 7 Loss to Minnesota
Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Nuggets’ surprising collapse at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves hit every player on the roster hard.

The defending champions had two opportunities to close out the series, only to allow the Timberwolves to mount an incredible comeback that solidified their stake as the newest giants of the Western Conference.

No one is probably taking it worse than Mike Malone. The long-time Nuggets tactician knew how to maximize the talents of his roster. However, the adjustments he made from Games 5 until 7 proved to be useless against a Timberwolves team that got their act together in time.

While much of the roster is determined to one-up their disappointing display in this year’s playoffs, their head coach insists that his boys did everything he could ask for and more.

Mike Malone insists the Denver Nuggets did him proud with their play despite Game 7 loss

Malone faced the media after his team’s Game 7 defeat at the hands of Minnesota. They asked him whether the team could have pushed themselves more to seal their progression to the next round of the playoffs.

Everyone can see where the press is trying to go with their questions. However, Malone took the opportunity to thank hs Denver Nuggets for sticking with his game plan, which ultimately fell short against the Timberwolves:

It’s a nice gesture for Mike Malone to praise his roster for their efforts throughout the season. It effectively deflects the blame onto him for not putting up a strong enough strategy to contain Edwards and the Timberwolves when they had two shots to close the series.

Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Aaron Gordon had bright spots throughout the series, but they weren’t the only ones who played their heart out for Malone and the Nuggets. Every person on the Nuggets roster did the best they could to overcome a Timberwolves side that had plenty of momentum going on for their side.

However, losing is part of the game. What’s important for Denver at this point is how they can bounce back and make another deep playoff run next year.
