Nikola Jokic’s love for horses has never been a secret. So it’s not entirely surprising to hear the Denver Nuggets superstar big man talk about horses when he tried to share his thoughts on what he just did on the court Tuesday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Via DNVR Nuggets:
“We are born for this. We train since we were little. My opinion is that horses are basically like athletes and they’re really similar to us.”
“They are born to run and we are born to play.”
Jokic put together one of the greatest single-game performances in the history of the NBA. Against the Timberwolves at home, the three-time NBA Most Valuable Player scored a career-high 61 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 10 assists with two steals in 53 minutes of action.
Unfortunately for the Serbian, even his monstrous stat line was not enough for the Nuggets to overcome the Timberwolves, who capitalized on Denver’s blunders near the end of the second overtime to escape Mile High City with a 140-139 victory.
And just like in horseracing where a horse can’t simply win it all, the NBA is also a league where a team can’t just dominate all their opponents in a season.
That has been quite the story for Denver against the Timberwolves in the 2024-25 NBA campaign, as the Nuggets’ loss on Tuesday gave Minnesota a 4-0 sweep in this regular-season series.
Jokic and the Nuggets can turn things around as soon as this coming Wednesday when they welcome the San Antonio Spurs before facing the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco on Friday.
