Derrick White shared his thoughts on what Josh Minott adds to the Boston Celtics, following the forward’s move to Boston this offseason.
Josh Minott’s arrival didn’t draw much attention during the summer, but there’s plenty of reason to believe he could end up as a valuable addition for the Celtics.
After Jayson Tatum went down with an injury, it became clear inside the organisation that a title run wasn’t likely. The Celtics responded by trading away their pricier contracts and reshaping the squad around more affordable role players.
Minott left Minnesota as a free agent after helping them reach the Western Conference Finals. Jaylen Brown even commented that Boston should have brought him in years ago.
Minott quickly earned Joe Mazzulla’s admiration and made his way into the team’s rotation without any real difficulty.
Derrick White recently joined streamer N3on’s podcast, where he spoke about his new teammates and what he hopes to see from them this season.
When it came to Josh Minott, White didn’t hold back on his support. He said that he wants the forward to show people what he can do and build a real name for himself in Boston.
“I would probably say Josh Minott. It’s his fourth year in the league. He never really got an opportunity in Minnesota.
“He was not really getting much time there. So, he is coming here hungry and excited for this opportunity, where we’re going to need him to play and do a lot of things.”
“He has a lot of talent. He can do a little bit of everything out there on both sides of the court.
“Guys like that, where this might be their first opportunity to show what they can do in the NBA, to make a name for themselves, have to have that dog energy. I’m excited for Josh, and we have a few guys like that.”
White also touched on the arrival of Anfernee Simons, discussing what the guard could add to Boston’s offence.
“We talked about [Anfernee Simons]. He has done a lot in this league. He has scored at a high level. So, for him to come over here from Portland and figure out our system is exciting.”
Boston have opened the season with three straight defeats, and while the new faces have brought some energy, there’s no question Tatum’s absence is being felt across the roster.
It wouldn’t be surprising if they decided to ride out this tough stretch rather than chase wins. After all, with a strong 2026 draft class expected, there could be long-term benefits to staying near the bottom of the standings.
