It has been a disappointing offseason thus far for the Golden State Warriors as they have failed to make any additions to their roster outside of the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft.
Golden State was expected to be active this summer to upgrade their roster around their star trio of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green to chase a championship this season.
Instead, the Warriors have continued to deal with the ongoing situation surrounding restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga, which has caused them to missed out on multiple free agent targets.
Despite this, it has been reported that Golden State does have deals in place with multiple free agents that will likely be finalized after Kuminga’s situation is resolved.
One free agent who the Warriors reportedly have a handshake agreement with is Boston Celtics champion center Al Horford and details recently emerged regarding the potential deal between the two sides.
According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, the Warriors are expected to sign Horford to a two-year contract that will include a player option.
“Al Horford, De'Anthony Melton, and others have been unable to sign their contracts for financial reasons, as Kuminga's stalemate must be solved before any other deals can officially be signed. All of their remaining signings are expected to be minimum contracts except for Horford, who is expected to sign a two-year deal with a player option, sources said,” Siegel wrote.
This is an interesting report by Siegel, especially since it has been reported that Horford has been contemplating retirement this offseason.
Despite this, Horford would be able to opt out of his contract after the first season thanks to the player option if he decides to retire after this season.
Either way, this is massive news for the Warriors as it appears as though they will finally be adding a solid starting center to their roster that they have been in desperate need of for many years.
The 39-year-old big man is still a great scorer and rebounder despite being in the final years of his NBA career and he is also a solid defender who should fit well in the starting lineup next to Curry, Butler and Green, especially due to his three-point shooting.
Of course, the Warriors will need to add more talent to their roster before the start of the regular season but adding Horford will be a massive addition to their roster as they hunt another title.
