Doc Rivers stands among the NBA’s most recognizable figures. His achievements spanning player and coaching careers speak volumes, but his candid commentary keeps him in the spotlight.

The veteran coach never holds back his opinions. Rivers recently compared Tyrese Maxey to current MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, having coached both talents during his tenure.

Rivers also made an ‘insane‘ admission about Tom Thibodeau’s firing, questioning the New York Knicks’ decision from the perspective of a coach.

Doc Rivers has worked with elite organizations throughout his career. The Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Milwaukee Bucks have all benefited from his leadership over two decades.

Stephen Curry captures Doc Rivers’ admiration

The 63-year-old recently revealed his favorite player to watch in the NBA. Surprisingly, he chose someone he’s never coached despite his extensive experience across the league.

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry earned Rivers’ top spot. The Milwaukee Bucks coach shared specific reasoning behind his choice during recent comments.

“If I didn’t coach in the league and I just loved the basketball the way I loved it, I’m going to watch Steph Curry play every day, every chance I get,” Rivers explained.

“He’s going to do something extraordinary. He moves without the ball.”

One important statistic from Stephen Curry’s MVP season stood out to Doc Rivers

Rivers highlighted one particular statistic that showcases Curry’s unique impact. The Warriors’ championship run provided the perfect example of Curry’s evolution.

“One of my favorite stats in NBA history was when Steph won the MVP the year they won their first title, he had the ball in his hands 47% less than the year before,” Rivers noted.

The coach regularly incorporates Curry footage into Milwaukee’s film sessions. Giannis Antetokounmpo and other Bucks players have embraced these clips, according to Rivers.

Giannis Antetokounmpo loves watching Stephen Curry’s clips

Rivers placed Curry among basketball’s most watchable superstars. The coach referenced Magic Johnson’s criteria for true superstar status.

“I say this term, our players cringe when I say it, like we’ll watch film and I say, ‘right guys, the first clip is coach’s p_rn’. It’s some beautiful play,” Rivers revealed.

The exclusive list includes LeBron James and Giannis. Rivers emphasized that these players command premium ticket prices simply through their presence on the court.

“Steph has it all the time [on the film]. LeBron in his heyday, just his passing. You would pay to watch him play. Giannis, you would pay. It‘s not a long list,“ he added.
