Nikola Jokic is a truly incredible center. He's won three of the past four MVP awards, and he plays in such an unorthodox way that it typically goes against fundamental teachings.
The Denver Nuggets have maximized Jokic's incredible play by capturing a championship victory in 2023, though there's room to earn even more accolades during his time with the club.
Despite the recent award wins, he's posting a career season with career-highs in both scoring and assist averages. Still, there seems to be a certain level of disrespect he gets despite obvious results and success.
Recently, Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown was talking about Domantas Sabonis -- their star center -- and drew a Jokic comparison.
When talking about the two centers, Brown was weighing the differences between the two players. He didn't directly compare the two -- but he addressed one aspect in which he thinks Sabonis is better than Jokic.
“I’m not saying Domas is better than Jokic or anything like that,” Brown said. “But, to me, that’s why Domas is a better playmaker than Jokic.”
This is quite an interesting take, considering Jokic is averaging double-digit assists per game and is regarded as one of the best passers in the league right now and one of the best passing big men of all time.
No matter what Jokic does, there's going to be a discourse regarding his game. Maybe because he's not as flashy as other players, or maybe it's because he's accomplished so much people will try and diminish his accomplishments.
He's a generational superstar and any comparison to his game, at this point, is just silly. He's a multi-time MVP with an NBA championship under his belt.
