In the past two seasons, the Minnesota Timberwolves shocked the NBA by reaching the Western Conference Finals in consecutive years. Most people would choose the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Denver Nuggets as the best teams, but the Timberwolves find ways to reach the top two.
Anthony Edwards is a big catalyst of that, considering he is the Timberwolves' superstar. He is already a talented player, proven by his status as a number one overall pick. However, Donte DiVincenzo can attest to Edwards' hard work.
During the 2024-25 season, the Timberwolves had a rough first half. They were not barely in the postseason picture, but that changed with their superb run in the second half. They worked their way into the Playoffs as the sixth seed, promptly knocking out the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round.
The second round was supposed to be a tough series, but the Timberwolves made quick work of the Golden State Warriors. They lost in the Western Conference Finals to the Thunder, but Edwards and the Timberwolves proved they can hang with the toughest teams.
Edwards, in particular, was a standout. He hit the most three-pointers in the league, which is a far cry from his initial reputation as a pure slasher. That is a testament to how hard he works behind the scenes.
Despite Edwards' happy-go-lucky personality, people might not know that he is one of the hardest-working players in the league. Some people were too caught up in the story that he did not love playing basketball, as he was a football head.
That is not the case because he has clarified that he loves basketball, and he is dedicated to improvement. His marked improvement in recent seasons is his three-point shot, which was a weakness before.
As his teammate, Donte DiVincenzo has seen what Edwards does behind the scenes. In only one season they have played together, DiVincenzo has been impressed with his superstar teammate.
"A guy like Ant, he just loves the game. He just loves hoops, he loves ball. He's talking about it all the time. He's thinking about it, and it's contagious," DiVincenzo said to Michael Grady.
"When you have your main guy coming in, in the summertime, seeing all the stuff that he's doing, it just makes everybody want to work harder, and it just raises the level and raises the bar."
With his hard work and ability to lead the Timberwolves, Edwards is a dark horse for the MVP award moving forward. Most people will anticipate three names in the race: Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Luka Doncic.
Edwards' name is not mentioned often, but he is an MVP-caliber player. He is the Timberwolves' clear-cut star, and he produces impressive statistics. Edwards is not just a scorer because he can serve as a playmaker as well.
"He is one of one."

Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch trusts Edwards to be his superstar. They have worked well together, which has led to the Timberwolves' most successful era since they had Kevin Garnett as the star in the early 2000s.
Now, Edwards' hard work is paying off because he is well-respected across the league. However, DiVincenzo wants more people to recognize that Edwards deserves the recognition because of what he is doing away from the bright lights and cameras.
