At the tail end of the 2024 NBA offseason, the New York Knicks did the unthinkable, breaking up their newly-completed "Nova Knicks" core by trading away sharpshooter Donte DiVincenzo, who was packaged with Julius Randle to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Karl-Anthony Towns.
After a slow start with the Timberwolves, both Randle and DiVincenzo have found their footing and are playing massive roles in the charge toward the playoffs. While there may have been hard feelings about the trade initially, DiVincenzo is happy with where he's ended up.
He recently reunited with teammates Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, and Josh Hart for an AT&T commercial that paid homage to their time together with the Villanova Wildcats, but DiVincenzo thinks that's all best left in the past.
“I’m having a hell of a time out here,” said DiVincenzo in an interview with Forbes. “It’s super fun. The fans are absolutely amazing. The organization is amazing. Going back to free agency, (Minnesota) is one of the teams that I was considering. It’s not like I went somewhere where I wasn’t wanted, but also that I didn't want to be at.”
Led by Anthony Edwards, the Timberwolves are one of the more fun and exciting teams in the league. DiVincenzo has come off the bench for most of the season but is slowly approaching the impressive numbers he recorded with the Knicks last season.
He has two full seasons left on his contract and will likely remain in Minnesota through his deal, and after that, he might seek a return to the Big Apple, although it seems like the 'Nova boys' friendship isn't contingent on being on the same team.
