This space aims to identify players who represent good value for recording a double-double in a particular game. If they post double-digit totals in any two of the five main categories (points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals), backers will at least double their money – and sometimes make much more than that.
The bet: A double-double for Nuggets guard Jamal Murray (+160 DraftKings)
Having missed all of last season while rehabbing a torn ACL, Murray has unfortunately experienced an athlete’s emotional nadir. Now he and his Nuggets teammates are one win away from the jubilation of capturing the first championship in franchise history.
Murray delivered at least 10 assists in each of the first four games of the series, recording three double-doubles and a triple-double. He has already joined the elite company of Magic Johnson, who doubled-doubled with points and assists in each game as the Lakers beat the 76ers for the 1983 title. But since that series was a sweep, Murray can go the legendary point guard one better by turning the trick in a five-game NBA Finals.
As Heat defenders have blitzed pick-and-rolls, Murray has conducted the offense like a maestro, consistently making the right pass. He is averaging 18 potential assists per game for the series, and with individual and team history on the line in a clinching Game 5, we can expect the song to remain the same.
