Doug McDermott Re-Signs With Kings on One-Year Deal

Veteran NBA forward Doug McDermott is returning to the Sacramento Kings for another run.

McDermott has agreed to a one-year deal worth $3.6 million, agents Mark Bartelstein and Andy Shiffman told ESPN’s Shams Charania. The contract represents the veteran minimum for a player with over 10 years of NBA service.

James Ham of The Kings Beat also confirmed the news.

The 33-year-old sharpshooter is entering his 12th NBA season and his second in Sacramento. While his role was limited last year, McDermott made the most of his minutes, averaging 3.5 points per game while knocking down 43.6 percent of his three-point attempts in just over eight minutes a night.

A former lottery pick out of Creighton, McDermott has carved out a long NBA career thanks to his shooting touch. He has hit 41 percent of his threes over more than 600 career games and remains a threat to stretch the floor whenever he’s on the court. Defense has always been a challenge, but spacing and experience are what keep him on rosters.

McDermott becomes the 15th player on Sacramento’s standard roster, though it’s not yet known whether his new deal is fully guaranteed. Either way, he gives head coach Mike Brown another reliable floor-spacer in a rotation that already features plenty of offensive firepower.
