The Warriors are set to go down in history as one of sports’ most formidable dynasties. Led by Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson, the Warriors won the 2015 NBA Championship, and they broke the NBA regular season wins record by going 73-9. While they won two more championships after Kevin Durant joined the team, the trio reunited to win the 2022 NBA Finals.
But their contending window as a trio closed once Thompson left the team to join the Dallas Mavericks in the Summer of 2024. Draymond Green spoke about Thompson’s departure on Candace Parker’s podcast Post Moves and made an interesting admission.
“A part this era ended when Klay left. When Klay left it’s a little different. But it’s still us three and Q Dog, our assistant coach who has been here the whole time. It’s still a lot of people. Our trainer, Drew Yoder, it’s still a lot of people, Chris DeMarco just left to take the New York Liberty job. It’s a lot of people around that’s been in here the entire time.”
While Thompson is still under contract with the Mavericks, perhaps a reunion in Golden State in the future isn’t totally out the window. In comments obtained by Mike Curtis in early April, Thompson appeared bullish about his future in Dallas.
“That’s a hard-hitter. I’m not sure. I’m under contract, so I do, but I’ve definitely learned in my time in Dallas that things can change on a dime. I’m just here to have a great time and put my best foot forward.
