Draymond Green didn’t take very long to go Draymond Green this season.
The Golden State Warriors forward Green outdid himself during Tuesday’s season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers. In the first quarter at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Calif., Green had just subbed out of the game after six minutes and change.
After the substitution was made, the referees missed a basket interference violation by Lakers center Deandre Ayton on a layup attempt by Warriors guard Gary Payton II. As play continued, Green began angrily yelling from the bench about the officiating whiff.
Referee Ed Malloy (No. 14) then stopped play to issue Green a technical foul. Here is the video (with NBC play-by-play announcer Noah Eagle noting that it was Green’s 132nd career T).

The NBA is back

The former Defensive Player of the Year Green ranked third in the NBA last season with 18 technical fouls. He has also led the league in Ts thrice already in his career (in 2015-16, 2018-19, and 2022-23).
Thus, this is all just par for the course for Green, who is also notorious for his dirty plays on opponents (including some from just last postseason). Now we can safely say that Green is just 15 more technical fouls away from being suspended by the NBA, remarkably achieving that feat less than seven minutes into the new season (and while not even actually on the court of play).
