Draymond Green and Stephen Curry aren’t the only Warriors players with championship rings.
This summer, Golden State Warriors added Al Horford, who brings championship experience from the 2024 Boston Celtics title.
Interestingly, in 2022, Horford nearly won the championship with Boston before losing in the Finals to the Warriors team featuring Draymond Green and Stephen Curry.
The shared history creates unique dynamics as they now pursue another title together.
Recently, Green addressed whether he would remind Horford about that Finals loss now that they’re teammates.
“Absolutely not. No chance. Not necessary. Al’s a champion. It’s unfortunate for him he had to play the Dubs, but there won’t be no reminders from me,” Green stated.
Green prefers viewing the situation differently, seeing an opportunity to learn from Horford’s championship mentality despite their previous Finals matchup.
The 38-year-old center brings winning experience and leadership Green values.
The former Defensive Player of the Year understands the pain of Finals defeats, having experienced losses twice with the Warriors.
“I’m excited to learn from him, I’m lucky to have him as a teammate, I’ve lost some championships too, I wouldn’t want someone coming in reminding me of my losses. I won’t be the one to remind him of his,” Green explained.
Ultimately, Green and Horford will pursue another championship together with the Warriors. Despite being among the NBA’s oldest teams, they possess the mentality and capability to compete for titles.
The frontcourt pairing provides complementary skills. Green offers forward playmaking and defensive orchestration, reading opponent attacks better than most players.
Horford provides floor-stretching ability from the center position and rim protection covering Green when he roams defensively.
Their combined experience and championship pedigree make the Warriors legitimate contenders despite age concerns, particularly if they maintain health throughout the season.
