Draymond Green knows that playoff pressure reveals more than just the final score. Every word a coach says carries heavy weight when a team faces elimination. Now, a postgame reaction has led to a warning from Green.
Green publicly warned Ime Udoka following his criticism of players after the Houston Rockets blew a game against the Los Angeles Lakers. Green shared his thoughts on the latest episode of The Draymond Green Show.
Green issued a direct message to the Houston coach. “I would just warn Ime to be careful there because in today’s day and age, I had to learn and deal with younger guys. As guys will quit on you, I’ve seen it. I’ve seen it all around the league: guys just quit on the coach. So I would caution Ime just to be careful there,” Green stated.
The Rockets lost a late six-point lead in Game 3 and fell 112-108 in overtime. Udoka did not hold back after the loss. He blamed his players for their poor execution and bad decision-making in the final seconds.
Houston’s late-game turnovers validated Udoka’s frustration. Houston had their chance with 30 seconds to go and a six-point lead. But consecutive turnovers gave the Lakers a crushing 6-0 run and an overtime win.
Alperen Sengun’s 33 points and the Amen Thompson and Jabari Smith Jr. 50-point combo weren’t enough to make up for these late execution errors, which cost the Rockets the game.
But Green’s warning carries equal weight here. The Rockets dominated the second half, outscoring LA 49-38, but completely fell apart when execution mattered most.
Now down 1-3 in the series, Houston’s players are under enormous pressure and disappointment.
Yet amid this chaos, Green felt compelled to defend one of Houston’s absent superstars.
Kevin Durant’s injuries fueled fake speculation that he quit on Houston. Draymond Green shut that narrative down, coming to the defense of the superstar.
“A lot of people have made a lot of discourse about, ‘Oh, KD don’t really want to play. He’s quitting on his teammates.’ One thing you don’t question: Kevin Durant loves to play basketball. He loves to play basketball. If there’s anything that Kevin Durant loves, he loves to play basketball,” Green said.
Green’s credibility here runs deep. He spent three championship seasons with Durant in Golden State, watching him dominate two Finals MVP performances. Durant overcame a career-threatening torn Achilles, and Green was there.
Now, Houston is on the brink of elimination, desperately needing their injured superstar back.
With Game 5 coming Wednesday, April 29, the Rockets’ season is hanging by a thread.
