The Miami Heat’s Big 3 could have looked very different if one of these two stars signed instead of Chris Bosh.
Most NBA fans will never forget the summer of 2010 as LeBron James announced his next team on ESPN’s special program, ‘The Decision.’
After James made the dramatic revelation about joining Dwyane Wade on the Miami Heat, he instantly became the most hated player in the league at the time.
However, fans have heard a plethora of stories about James joining the Heat. How about we put that on the back burner and focus on the third member of the Heat Big 3, Chris Bosh?
Heat legend D-Wade recently made an appearance on the Pardon My Take podcast. During the episode, Wade discussed the Heatles era with James and Bosh.
Speaking of which, Wade revealed that before Bosh signed with the franchise, Amar’e Stoudemire and Carlos Boozer called him and James about potentially joining the Heat.
“Once people start getting a little inside that we were thinking about playing together, we got a couple calls. So we were getting calls from Amar’e was a free agent, yeah, Boozer was a free agent,” Wade said.
He continued: “And so we had to look and see if those personalities and those talents have obviously worked with us, right?
“Bron and I were both committed to playing together, and it was really important who that third person was.”
While a James-Wade duo is in itself an unstoppable force, the Heat seemingly wanted to go all in by adding a quality third star.
Despite interest from the likes of Stoudemire and Boozer, Wade confirmed that he and James were always inclined towards forming a Big 3 with Bosh.
“And we knew all along that if we were going to do this, that Chris Bosh was the choice. “We’re both ball-dominant guys, right, and you need somebody else to, kind of, like, relieve that.
“And Chris Bosh was the reliever in that for us,” Wade stated.
With the Big 3 completed, the Heat went on a dominant run in the Eastern Conference as they made four consecutive NBA Finals appearances.
Although the Heat lost two NBA Finals, they also won back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013. Evidently, it wouldn’t have been possible without an unselfish third star like Bosh.
