The Nets have finalized a pair of moves, signing forward E.J. Liddell to a two-way contract and inking big man Day’Ron Sharpe to a two-year, $12 million deal, the team announced.
Liddell, 24, was the 41st pick in the 2022 draft out of Ohio State but tore his ACL in Summer League and has barely seen NBA action since. He’s logged just 76 minutes in two years with the Pelicans and Bulls, but he showed flashes in the G League last season with Windy City, averaging 15.7 points and 6.6 rebounds.
He joins Tyson Etienne as one of Brooklyn’s two-way players, leaving one slot open.
Sharpe’s deal had been reported since June, but Brooklyn waited to make it official while juggling cap room. With more than $10 million in space still available, the Nets remain in position to keep tinkering.
Hawks fill camp roster: Atlanta has added forward Javan Johnson and guard Dwight Murray Jr., the team announced. Both are expected to land Exhibit 10 deals.
Johnson, 26, spent most of last year with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League, averaging 13.8 points and shooting 37 percent from three.
Murray, 24, is a Georgia native who played last season with the College Park Skyhawks, averaging 9.0 points and 5.1 assists. Both could circle back to College Park if they don’t stick on the Hawks’ roster.
Cavs back to beach: In case you missed it, the Cavaliers will once again take training camp to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, from Sept. 30 to Oct. 5, as we relayed here.
President of basketball operations Koby Altman praised the experience last year and said the team is looking forward to another week of bonding on Florida’s Gulf Coast before tipping off preseason.
