Eastern Conference Team Urged to Trade for Grizzlies' Ja Morant

According to Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal, Memphis Grizzlies All-Star point guard Ja Morant has parted ways with Lift Sports Management.

Morant joined Lift, an agency headed by former NBA and Grizzlies forward Mike Miller, in April 2024.

A two-time All-Star, Morant will make $39.4 million next season, $42.2 million in 2026-27 and $44.8 million in 2027-28, the final year of his contract. The explosive dunker signed a five-year, $197 million extension with Memphis in 2022.

Cole reported that all indications are that the relationship between the Grizzlies and Morant remains strong.

However, that didn't stop one NBA analyst from urging Kevin Durant's old team to trade for Morant.

Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report thinks the Brooklyn Nets should attempt to trade for Morant this offseason.

"The Nets' glut of cap space gives them opportunities to chase almost anyone, but Morant's sinking value might make him a bargain acquisition," Hughes wrote. "Still just 25 and relatively affordable with three years left on his rookie-scale max, the two-time All-Star is an intriguing buy-low candidate.

"Remember, Morant finished seventh in MVP voting in 2021-22 and 12th in 2022-23. The Nets lack a cornerstone and anything resembling a high-end starter at the point. Morant could easily reestablish himself as both of those and then some."

Morant appeared in 50 games for the Grizzlies this season. He averaged 23.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game while shooting 45.4% from the field, 30.9% from beyond the arc and 82.4% from the foul line.

The Oklahoma City Thunder swept Memphis in the first round of this year's postseason. Morant missed Game 4 after getting injured in Game 3.

The Grizzlies drafted Morant with the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Morant, who doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract, has career averages of 22.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game.
