Eddie Hall has added another combat sport to his growing list, stepping into the ring for a sumo wrestling bout against fellow strongman Brian Shaw.
Hall, who claimed the World’s Strongest Man title in 2017, regularly tests himself in different sports for his YouTube channel. He has also fought in both MMA and boxing, and back in April, he made headlines by knocking out Mariusz Pudzianowski during his KSW debut.
This time around, Hall tried out sumo wrestling with Shaw during one of their training sessions. They visited a gym in Derby and squared off against several big opponents before eventually facing each other.
Eddie Hall’s latest YouTube upload featured a sumo match against fellow former World’s Strongest Man Brian Shaw. Between them, they weighed in at 760lb, with Shaw coming in over 420lb and Hall, now leaner since his transition to MMA, at around 334lb.
Both men picked up some pointers from coach Steve Pateman of the British Sumo Federation before stepping into the ring with local veterans for a bit of hands-on experience. That set the stage for their own face-off.
The contest was evenly matched for about ninety seconds, with Hall keeping up the pressure throughout. The fight ended when Hall attempted a hip toss near the edge of the ring, sending both men out nearly simultaneously.
The gym members were asked to decide on a winner and gave it, overwhelmingly, to Hall.
“Everyone’s a judge, jury and executioner in this room,” he joked afterwards, while Shaw couldn’t help but comment on how sweaty his opponent had become during their bout.
After a big win over Mariusz Pudzianowski earlier this year, several names have come up as possible opponents for Eddie Hall’s next fight. He stopped the Polish star quickly, though it was under modified round lengths, and a rematch has been mentioned.
Other names linked include jiu-jitsu specialist Dillon Danis, who, despite being more than 150lb lighter than Hall, brings elite grappling skills. Hall has also floated the idea of facing both Logan and Jake Paul on the same night.
Even so, there’s no clear timeline for when Hall might return to MMA. He had mentioned possibly fighting again later this year but seems content for now to focus on other sports and creating content rather than diving back into a full training camp.
