Eric Gordon reveals career goal, how key Philadelphia 76ers teammate can help with that

Eric Gordon has had a 17-season NBA career, although he still thinks there is one accomplishment that he might be unable to achieve.

Eric Gordon has enjoyed 17 NBA seasons and made over $180 million playing basketball at the highest level.

Despite playing alongside James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Kevin Durant, and Joel Embiid, he has yet to even appear in the NBA Finals, although he sees himself hitting the 20-season mark and isn’t willing to rule anything out.

As Gordon suits up for his 18th season, his second with the Philadelphia 76ers, he recently reflected on his career and one crowning achievement that has continued to elude him.

Eric Gordon wants to win an Olympic gold medal

Gordon has suited up for both Team USA, winning the 2010 FIBA World Championship, and the Bahamas, where he nearly qualified for the 2024 Olympics.

Despite boasting established NBA talent like Gordon, Deandre Ayton, and Buddy Hield, the Bahamas are not expected to qualify for the 2028 Games, and Gordon knows that will likely be his last chance.

“I would love to take the Bahamas to the Olympics,” he said. “I would love that. It’s going to be hard because that’s in 2028, and as I’m getting older, it’s going to be hard. But, of course, the dream was being a gold medal in the Olympics.”

In 2028, Gordon will be 39 years old. He will likely still be a lethal shooter from deep, although his national team will add a rising star, with whom Gordon will spend this season.

VJ Edgecombe is expected to take the next step in international play

Picked third overall by the 76ers in the 2025 NBA Draft, VJ Edgecombe is a versatile scorer, strong defender, and the best athlete entering the NBA this season.

He played in only two Summer League games, although he averaged a stellar 20.5 points in those contests, building off the success he found at Baylor.

Last summer, in the Olympic qualifying tournament, Edgecombe was perhaps the best player for the Bahamas. In the four qualifying games against Spain, Poland, Finland, and Lebanon, he posted 16.5 points and shot 38.5% from deep.

Of course, the Bahamas’ even qualifying for the Olympics would be a massive accomplishment. They have never made an Olympic appearance, and the island country boasts only eight gold medals, mostly in women’s track and field.

With Team USA, France, Germany, Serbia, and Slovenia seen as international heavyweights, the Bahamas have a long way to go, although Gordon has no reason to give up, especially with a talented youngster on the roster.
