It hasn’t been a minute since Marcus Smart started donning the Washington Wizards jersey and he’s already raising eyebrows for his defensive energy.

After drawing an offensive foul in the fourth quarter during their duel with the Brooklyn Nets, Smart hit an explosive kip up to the delight of Washington fans, commentators, and analysts.

ESPN’s David Dennis Jr. was also impressed with Smart’s kip up and gave credit to where it is due. He also pointed out an impressive milestone in the Wizards’ 107-99 win over the Cavaliers.

"The kip up was fine but shout out to Shawn Michaels of WWE fame who made it popular,” Dennis Jr. said. “The most surprising story of his to me is this is the first game all season where the Wizards have not allowed 100 points. That is unreal.”

The 2022 Defensive Player of the Year proved he’s back and better than ever. In the Wizards’ win, he chipped in 10 points, two assists, one rebound, and one block. He also did the intangibles he’s known for: snatching loose balls, deflecting passes, taking charges, and energizing the entire squad.

Smart, most known for his stint with the Boston Celtics, is expected to guide the young Wizards core of Jordan Poole , Bilal Coulibaly, Carlton Carrington, and Kyshawn George. Together with Khris Middleton, he’s expected to help turn things around for the struggling franchise.
