Ex-Pistons Guard Malik Beasley Drawing Interest From 4 Teams in Free Agency: Report

After being the surprise team in the NBA last season after their historic turnaround, the Detroit Pistons are set to enter the 2025-26 season with high expectations.

Of course, Detroit made the playoffs as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference last season after posting the NBA’s worst record in the NBA the prior two seasons.

The main reason for the Pistons’ historic turnaround was their mix of veterans and young talent along with their young players such as Cade Cunningham and Ausar Thompson continuing to develop.

Now the Pistons will have high expectations entering the new season, though they did lose some key players in free agency as both Tim Hardaway Jr. and Dennis Schroder left.

Detroit did add Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson in free agency and they are also reportedly interested in bringing back one of their key players from last season.

Pistons among 4 teams interest in Malik Beasley

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Pistons are among four teams that have shown interest in signing Malik Beasley in free agency.

The other three teams showing interest in him according to Scotto are the Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves.

For Detroit, they were in talks with Beasley about re-signing him earlier this summer before he became the subject of an investigation due to gambling allegations.

With the sharpshooting guard no longer being investigated, the Pistons are now once again showing interest in bringing him back and for good reason.

Last season, the 28-year-old guard averaged 16.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 43.0% from the field and 41.6% from three.

Beasley also finished runner-up in Sixth Man of the Year voting last season and also made the second-most three-pointers in the NBA behind Anthony Edwards.

The veteran guard played a key role for the Pistons last season off the bench and there is no surprise that Detroit is interested in bringing him back, especially with them losing some other key pieces this offseason.

While the Pistons are reportedly showing interest in Beasley, another team Scotto mentioned in his report could steal him away this summer, though the veteran guard had previously said that he wants to be back in Detroit this season.

Either way, it appears as though the Pistons will have some competition from other teams to sign Beasley this offseason as they try to bring back the three-point sharpshooter.
