Finding value in fantasy basketball drafts is always the key to becoming a league champion. These six players have been ranked at least a round later than they should be entering drafting season.
Deni Avdija has been discussed widely as a player to watch for in fantasy basketball this season. He should once again have a major role in the Portland Trail Blazers’ offense and produce at a high level. Most rankings have him somewhere in the 60s. Avdija has a great chance to outperform this and should be considered much earlier than the sixth or seventh round.
Michael Porter Jr was traded to the Brooklyn Nets earlier this offseason, and the change of scenery will give him a great opportunity. Playing alongside Nikola Jokic was fantastic for Porter Jr as a basketball player looking to contribute to winning, but playing in Brooklyn makes his fantasy value skyrocket. A high-volume shooter should be given a massive role on the Nets, potentially even the number one option. His scoring upside is incredible, making him a great forward to target in the mid rounds.
John Collins is almost the exact opposite of Porter Jr, where Collins is leaving the rebuilding team to join a great playmaker with championship aspirations. Collins will be the athletic big that James Harden loves to have in pick and roles this season, giving him a great bump in fantasy value.
Collins fits much better in the Los Angeles Clippers’ starting lineup than Brook Lopez, so expect to see him and Harden sharing the floor often. Collins was at his peak fantasy value alongside Trae Young, so playing with a great passing guard will help him once again.
Ace Bailey has an incredible opportunity as a rookie. He was drafted to the Utah Jazz, where every shot in the world is available to be taken, something Bailey loves to do. He will be free to shoot as many times a game as he pleases, something he would not have been able to do on a more competitive team. His fantasy value will come from his scoring upside, but his early ranking indicates he will be a steal in the double-digit rounds.
Jared McCain is being overlooked after a tremendous rookie campaign was cut short due to an injury. His shooting was off the charts and was one of the few bright spots for the Philadelphia 76ers last season. Many fantasy players may be concerned about rookie VJ Edgecombe impacting his production or playing time, but McCain should remain in the starting lineup next season. A fully healthy McCain could be a fantasy league winner next season.
Coby White has improved immensely year after year, and this year should be no different. A full season of him controlling the Chicago Bulls’ offense will be awesome to watch. The 25-year-old guard has top-20 upside entering this season, and he can be drafted in the fifth or sixth round. White should maintain his scoring opportunities while simultaneously seeing an uptick in usage percentage, indicating a potential increase in assists. The added counting stats all but solidify him as a fantasy basketball sleeper.
Fantasy basketball sleepers are going to be a hot debate throughout the next month, with ADP shifting in a major way. If your fantasy leagues are starting up soon, take advantage of subpar rankings and jump on these league winners.
