Simone Fontecchio set the single-game scoring record (39 points) in the Eurobasket 2025 tournament. After having a bad game against Greece in their first game, Fontecchio scored from two and from three-point range. Pelle Larsson scored over 20 again for Sweden but in a loss. Nikola Jovic apparently suffered a hand injury in Serbia’s game against the Czech Republic.

Nikola Jovic hand injury

Heat beat writer Ira Winderman tweeted that Jovic suffered a minor hand injury in the game against Czechia. Jovic had a good game against Portugal and then a rough game against Latvia (1 point.) Serbia has an experienced team and has qualified to the Round of 16.

Jovic is second on Team Serbia only to “The Joker,” Nikola Jokic in efficiency, points and rebounds. Jovic is an X-factor for the Heat this season. He is entering his fourth year on the team and in the opinion of this writer, is too tall and too talented not to be a productive, everyday NBA professional.

Larsson scores 28 in loss

Sweden fell to Montenegro today in Group play. Larsson had 28 points on 10/20 shooting. He has had two consecutive games of offensive production. Sweden needed the game today against Montenegro. Montenegro, who has NBA player Nikola Vucevic on their roster, is in “the driver’s seat” to qualify for the knockout stage.

Fontecchio beats Bargniani

Fontecchio’s 39 points eclipsed the single-game record set by three-point specialist Andrea Bargnani at the Eurobasket in 2011. Fontecchio has been compared to Duncan Robinson (as to the role he’ll play for Miami.) He shot ten times from both two and three-point range and was great. He got to the line seven times and played 31 minutes.

Italy needed the game against Bosnia and Herzegovina. They are third in Group play with a game against 2022 Eurobasket champion, Spain. Italy will qualify for the round of 16 as they have a +24 point differential. Bosnia trails with a -11 point differential. Bosnia plays Cyprus in their next game but doesn’t appear to catch the Italians to get a better seeding in the knockout stage.
