Former Milwaukee Bucks guard Patrick Beverley was taken into custody in Texas on a third-degree felony assault charge, per TMZ Sports. The report states that Beverley is accused of assaulting a family or household member, with the allegation involving actions that restricted the victim’s breathing or circulation, an offense Texas law classifies as a significant and serious crime.
Beverley posted a $40,000 bond and is expected to walk free later Friday, per TMZ.
His attorney, Letitia Quinones-Hollins, said Beverley has no criminal history and stressed that he acted out of genuine concern for his younger sister, “Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister – a young lady, a minor. Given that, when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister. However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court,”
Beverley arrived in Milwaukee at the 2024 trade deadline, bringing a jolt of toughness and perimeter defense to a team navigating coaching changes and a shifting roster.
He logged 25 regular-season appearances for Milwaukee and suited up in all six contests during the Bucks’ brief playoff run. His final outing came on May 2, 2024, against the Indiana Pacers, a night that turned chaotic when he became entangled in a now widely discussed confrontation with Pacers fans.
During the fourth quarter of that playoff loss, Beverley hurled a basketball into the crowd and hit a woman in the head, asked for the ball back, and then launched it toward another fan moments later.
The former Bucks guard was hit with a four-game suspension by the league, and he still has not served it. In the aftermath, a group of Pacers fans brought a civil case against him, saying the encounter left them dealing with physical pain, emotional strain, embarrassment, medical costs, and lost income.
After Milwaukee decided not to bring him back, Beverley entered the offseason as a free agent. He later joined Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel, but his tenure was brief. The team suspended him in February, and he soon left the team.
This most recent arrest adds to the series of off-court and on-court incidents that have followed Beverley since his time with the Bucks ended.
