The Dallas Mavericks are far from in a good spot right now, and it has been primarily self-inflicted from the front office and decision-makers. Trading Luka Doncic, at 25-years-old, before his peak, was arguably the worst move the club could have made at this point in time.

Doncic is a generational talent and franchise superstar and now suits up in a Los Angeles Lakers jersey. Patrick Dumont and Nico Harrison just leveraged the franchise's future in favor of "contending" for the next few seasons.

From being led by a generational star, the Mavericks are now leaning on Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis, both past their prime years in the NBA, to lead them to the promise land. Just last season, Doncic took the club to the NBA Finals.

To make matters worse, Davis arrived and made a loud statement in his Mavericks debut, though he suffered an injury late in the game that will keep him sidelined for quite some time.

Former Dallas wing Chandler Parsons took to "Run it Back" to reveal that the injury could end up more serious than originally thought.

"Everything I hear, too, Anthony Davis' injury is a lot more serious than its led to believe," Parsons revealed. "They knew about this injury, too, before and kind of rushed him back to play."

There's no secret the Mavericks are headed in the wrong direction. They opened as a solid option to make the NBA Finals after their run a season ago. Doncic would have been able to get healthy and back in game shape following the injury before the playoffs, but Dallas decided enough was enough.

The Mavericks are now tied with the Houston Rockets with the tenth-best odds to win the NBA title this season at +4800, according to FanDuel, which would have likely been higher with Doncic on the squad.
